Summary

Results of a survey of the submerged aquatic macrophytes in 16 sites in southeastern Ontario varying widely in geology and nutrient status are presented. Where comparisons could be made, species were generally found within the same range of specific conductivities as reported in other studies.

Methodology

The name and location of each site is given in Table I, along with pH and specific conductivity. These were measured only when previous records were not available. Most sites were sampled once by scuba divers in either June, July, or August. Sites are listed in order of increasing conductivity. Since conductivities vary considerably in the Bay of Quinte with time of year, figures given for the Bay are means of measurements made between May and October. Small differences in conductivity between sites are therefore of doubtful significance. Only submerged and floating-leaved species are included, in order to simplify the comparison between sites.
